Newborn Photography Sessions in Surrey and SW London

I photograph newborn babies at my home in East Molesey, near Esher. This page showcases some of my recent newborn photography, and gives you an idea of how I work. If you would like to chat about booking a photo session with your new baby feel free to get in touch here. I'd love to hear from you.

What to Expect

Every photographer has a different approach when it comes to photographing newborns. One of the key benefits of my approach is that it is centred around your baby.

My style of photography is natural and timeless. When I photograph your new baby there are no baskets or buckets in sight, just your baby and the most important people in their world.

My portraits are created to be enjoyed for generations. I work with some exceptionally talented printers, framers and album makers who create products designed to last a lifetime. So you can enjoy them every day with your family, and pass them down to your children in the future.

I only take on a small number of sessions each month to ensure I can give each family the very best of what I do. My goal is to make the process as simple and enjoyable for you as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm sure you'll have a lot of questions and will want to make an informed decision about who you choose to photograph your baby - rightly so. I've answered the most common questions I'm asked below. I hope they're helpful in helping you make your decision. If you'd like to have a chat about any other questions you have, or are ready to book your session feel free to get in touch here. I'd love to hear from you.

How much does a shoot cost?

I find that price is usually the first thing potential clients ask about.  I believe in being completely open and transparent about prices. No nasty surprises! My session fee is £100 for a weekday shoot and £150 for shoots on weekends and bank holidays. These fees cover your pre-shoot consultation, a digital guide to help you prepare for the shoot, your photo shoot and your post-shoot viewing and ordering gallery. This does not include any products. These are purchased separately and you can read more about this below. I'm confident that you'll love your photographs. However, should this not be the case, I’lll refund your session fee without question!

Are there any prints included with my session?

The session fee covers your pre-shoot consultation, your shoot and your viewing and ordering gallery. Your photographs are purchased separately.

I only want my digital images so I can print them myself – do you do this?

Although I prefer presenting your images as finished wall art, albums or prints, I do also offer the option to buy digital files.  They are presented on a USB drive containing your print-ready images with printing rights for personal use. Your digital files will also be available to download from an online gallery, which you can share with family and friends. Digital images are not available to purchase individually, they're only available as a complete set or as a set of 10.

How much can I expect to spend on my products?

It really depends on what you plan to do with your final images. To give you a guide, most of my clients spend £550 - £1,200 after their session. You can find my complete pricing guide here, where you can see the beautiful products available to you.

Do I have to tell you what products I'll order now?

Not at all. After the session you'll have time to view your photographs and decide what you would like to order. There's no need to make any decisions until then.

Can I invite extended family to share the cost?

Yes of course! This is an exciting time for you, and if you’d like to include extended family such as grandparents please do. I’ll usually ask that extended family members join us at the end of the session.

This is a big investment for me. Can I pay in instalments?

If you spend more than £900 with me after your session you can opt to pay in instalments. The payments will be taken over three months, and once the full balance is paid your beautiful products will be ordered and delivered to you

What do you mean by a pre-session consultation?

The pre-session consultation usually happens on the phone, but we can also do it over Skype or Facetime if you prefer. It lasts about 15-20 minutes, and is a chance for us to talk about your baby, the rest of your family and what you really want from your session and your images. This is also a time when we can talk about what you wear for the session and how to prepare your baby. You’ll leave the call excited about your session and knowing exactly what to expect!

Where do the sessions take place?

Newborn sessions take place at my home in East Molesey. It’s warm, comfortable and I have all the studio equipment I need to create beautiful photos of your baby and family.

Will you come to my home to take the photographs there?

I don’t travel to client’s homes for newborn sessions. To create the style of photographs you see in my portfolio I need the space, equipment and lighting my in-home studio provides.

If you'd prefer a shoot at home, my family sessions will capture you all together at home, but won't include the posed photographs of your baby that you can see on this page. You can see an example of a family shoot with a newborn here.

What props do you use?

I like to keep my photographs clean and simple, and the focus clearly on your baby. I use neutral blankets and wraps, and classic soft and wooden toys. For newborn sessions I sometimes use a fabric-covered nest, but not buckets or baskets.

How long do the sessions last?

Newborn sessions usually last around 3-4 hours. I’m flexible though and if your baby needs a break during the session - for example for a feed or cuddle we’ll build a break in no problem.

What do the rest of the family do whilst you’re photographing our baby?

I have some comfortable sofas and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits for you to enjoy whilst I photograph your baby. You’ll have a good view of me photographing your baby, and I love getting to know the families I work with so will most likely chat to you through the shoot. If you’ve just had a baby you may like to catch up on some sleep during this time and that’s fine too! If you have older children I recommend bringing some things to keep them entertained - toys, books or an iPad always work well.

What if my older children misbehave?

I fully expect them to! Please don’t worry about this - it’s completely normal for older children to ‘have a moment’ during the photoshoot - particularly if their world has been turned upside down with the arrival of a new sibling. As mum to a toddler I’m well versed in dealing with tantrums, and we’ll do whatever we need to make your child comfortable during the session.

How much are the newborn shoots if I have twins or triplets?

There’s no extra charge if you have twins, triplets (ore more!) The session will be the same length as if you had one baby, and your viewing gallery of approximately 30 images will include a mixture of each baby individually and all of your babies together.

Do you fix things like runny nose, spots or dribble?

Yes I do. Editing each image is all part of the service so there’s no need to worry if a spot pops up on the day!

How old should my baby be for a newborn shoot?

The ideal time to photograph your newborn is when they are 6-10 days old.

I don’t know exactly when my baby will be born. How can we schedule a date for the newborn session?

When you book your session we’ll schedule a tentative date. Once your baby arrives we’ll reschedule or confirm it. I only book a limited number of newborn sessions each month to make sure I’ve got lots of flexibility to accommodate this.

When should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking your session after your 20 week scan as I only take on a small number of newborn sessions each month.

I don’t like having my photo taken, can you just photograph my baby?

I can...but I really recommend that you do get in front of the camera. Your baby will never be this tiny again, and in years to come you and your children will be glad to have beautiful photos of you together.

I only want one or two photographs taken. Will you do this?

During a session I’ll take lots of different photographs of your baby, and of you as a family. During this time I’ll capture all the different characteristics of your baby, and your family. One photo wouldn’t be able to do this and I wouldn’t be giving you the best of my work.

How long after our shoot will the images be ready?

Your images will be ready for you to view within 14 days of your session.

How do we view our images once they are ready?

Once your images are ready I’ll send you details of a private, online gallery where you can view them, and choose what you would like to order. I’ll be on hand to provide as little or as much support as you would like with this. The gallery will be live for 5 days.
