One of the questions I'm sometimes asked about my family photography sessions is about the difference between a mini session and a custom session. I hope this blog post helps to explain the differences so that you can choose the right type of session for your family.
When you book a custom session we'll design it together. Together we'll choose the date, location and style of your photography session so that it's tailored to your needs.
On the day we'll spend around 60-90 minutes together capturing your family, but there's really no time limit. If your children are tired, hungry or need a break from the camera we can pause and start again when they're ready. I won't rush you and will stay until I have everything I need.
After a custom family session you'll be able to view 30-40 images from your session and choose what to order from my lovely range of heirloom quality products. Most families budget to spend between £400-£1,000 after their session and are able to enjoy their photographs in a variety of beautiful ways.
Mini sessions take place on a small number of days through the year, in locations chosen by me and are designed to be short and sweet. Mini sessions are suitable for up to 6 people.
On the day of a mini session I'll photograph 5 families, and each family has a 30 minute session with me. Everything is designed to be as quick and easy as possible for you.
After a mini session you'll be able to view 10-15 images from your session, and choose 5 of these to keep. Most families also choose to purchase more images or printed products afterwards.
A custom session is perfect for you...
Custom sessions are perfect for you if you want a premium service, and want to have beautiful products that you can enjoy every day, and pass down through your family as heirlooms. They are also ideal if you would like to include extended family in the session, as custom sessions allow enough time for me to capture your whole family.
It's also a good idea to choose a custom session if your children are shy, or take a bit of time to become comfortable around new people. In both kinds of session I do everything I can to make the sessions fun and enjoyable for your children, but in a mini session there is only 30 minutes available which may not be enough time for some children to warm up.
A mini session is perfect for you...
Mini sessions are ideal if you would like to try professional photography for the first time, or just want a few digital images to share online or print yourself.
They also make brilliant presents since they include the session and some images meaning the recipient is not obligated to spend any more money unless they want to. They can be gifted to anyone, but popular ideas are to buy a session for grandparents with their grandchildren, or for birthdays or Mother's Day. When you are giving a mini session as a gift I'll provide a lovely gift voucher.
